A Graphical History of the American Flag

In its 239-year history, the American flag has had a total of 26 revisions. Between 1777 and 1960 as states entered the union, stars were added to the flag’s blue canton field. The 50-star flag has been America's national flag the longest, followed by the 48-star flag and then the 15-star flag. The 15-star flag, also known as the Star Spangled Banner, is the only American flag that doesn’t have 13 stripes. Mike Wirth has created a colorful infographic titled “Our Flag: A Graphical History,” that depicts all the changes the American flag has gone through.
